This week's Staff Spotlight is Mr. Ben Everly, who is in his first year of teaching at OCHS. Before coming to OCHS, he taught at three elementary schools. He currently teaches Special Education and he also co-teaches general education classes. He attended Western Kentucky University for his Bachelors and Masters degrees, and then he attended Georgetown College to get his 2nd Masters degree in teaching.
Outside of school, he enjoys coaching. He coaches baseball for OCHS and also coaches the OCMS football team. Mr. Everly also has two children. His son is a teacher at Ohio County Middle School, and his daughter is currently attending Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Mr. Everly says he enjoys teaching and working with his students. He states, “The most challenging part of teaching is learning the students, but that it is also the most rewarding part."
When asked about his biggest “home-run moment” in teaching, he shared a story about a past student reconnecting with him at Walmart. Mr. Everly states that, “While the student was talking to me his parents were smiling and saying that he missed me a lot and that was very special to me."
Ohio County High School is happy to have Mr.Everly on the team and looks forward to seeing the impact he makes on his students and the school.
