Recently, the Ohio County Public Library’s Book Mobile has opened for the year. Ellie Wiles, the outreach librarian, and Shyanne Webber, the teen services librarian, run the Book Mobile. It can be driven and parked anywhere in Ohio County, including homes, where they offer their “Homebound” service. It is also often taken to preschools, parks, and nursing homes for storytelling. One great thing about the Book Mobile is that they offer a wide variety of items, all of which are free to check out. Alongside books, the Book Mobile offers board games, puzzles, video games, fishing poles, cake pans, and laptops. Having a mobile library means they can reach more people and make these resources available to everyone. During a time when everything is expensive and literacy rates are decreasing, having a Book Mobile is important because it brings books to people all around Ohio County, some of whom are unable to go to the public library. Overall, it has had a positive impact on our community and has been a wonderful resource for families.
