Students in Mrs. Embry's Humanities classes took part in an Ancient Greek Olympic activity to wrap up their unit in Ancient Greece. The activities gave students the chance to learn about the original Olympics and to experience how it truly felt to be an Olympic athlete. Mrs. Embry said that her favorite part was that “each student participated and tried their hand at something new.” She also said the most challenging part was the logistics, trying to figure out how they could manage to do all the events while also trading out togas, but they got through it. As a track coach she wants her students to see that track isn't just running: it could be discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, long jump, and 100m sprint. Through all of this she thinks the togas were definitely the most memorable part of the whole activity and helped all the students understand and get into the Ancient Greek Olympics.
